SANM 560 Blog

A blog detailing my contributions and progress to our

SANM 560 commercial

March 24 2025

We discussed our concept for the commercial, which was featuring a skateboarder drab gray world coming to life with color while drinking Starry, with the end showing him skateboarding on the rings of Saturn in a starry sky. Below are some storyboards I created showcasing Starry.

After changing our concept to a simpler idea (a Skateboard shop where the skateboarder's boards have designs that briefly pop out into 3D) I brainstormed some skateboard shop logo ideas with various sketches.

Gathered references for my skateboard design - featuring a kabuki mask and researched various types of skateboards. Also created concepts for additional skateboards to go in the skateboard shop using my previous artwork.

2D tracking test to possibly use 2D tracking if 3D does not work

Rough Animation of my skateboard scene. Will need to figure out
a way to remove the painted mask on the skateboard as the
mask pops out of the skateboard in 3D

Rough Animation of my skateboard scene. Lighting has not been completed at all. Figured out how to remove the 2D graphic after the mask pops off the board. Used different footage so the board would not be so close to the frame.

Most recent slap comp prior to render layers and color correction, etc. Changes to make would include adding grass obscuring the lower portion of the skateboard, and rendering shadows. Animation by Sarah Via
